Senior Scientist

Dr. Vinod Namboodiri is a Senior Scientist with the Envision Research Institute. He is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Wichita State University. He is the 2018 recipient of the Wallace Award for Excellence in Research from the College of Engineering at Wichita State University. He graduated with a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2008. He has extensive experience in solving research challenges in wireless networks and mobile computing. These include the design of user-centric applications on devices such as smartphones and tablets, and solving technical challenges that arise for various applications of wireless sensors and radio frequency devices. Dr. Namboodiri is currently working with the ERI on designing and developing indoor wayfinding and navigation systems for the blind, visually impaired and disoriented. Such work is desperately needed as technologies developed for outdoor environments such as GPS and mapping are very inaccurate for indoor environments.
